Helpful Plumbing Videos: Garbage Disposals
- Turn the garbage disposal switch ON. If you hear the disposal humming but not turning, it is probably jammed up.
- Turn the disposal switch OFF.
- Using the wrench that came with your disposal, turn the nut located on the bottom center of the disposal to loosen up whatever is jamming it.
- Turn the disposal switch ON to see if the disposal works. If not, try pressing the small reset button on the bottom of the disposal unit.
Bob Cole's Tips
- Never pour grease or fibrous waste into your disposal. It may cause the drain line to become plugged up.
- A leaking garbage disposal should be replaced with a new unit.
- I recommend and install In-Sink-erator brand garbage disposals. They are well made and work great.
